• Although this is an expanded version of a doctoral dissertation, it is an excellent examination of the history and inner nuances of the world of JKA (Shotokan) Karate. It also offers excellent vignettes of the modern day JKA Masters circa 1960 (Kanazawa, Enoeda, Kase, Nakayama, et. al.) It clearly defines the physical strenuousness of Shotokan and the seriousness in which that 1st generation of Funakoshi disciples took in spreading his art and message throughout the world.
